Started in 1994 as a driver recruitment agency, Protrans Personnel expanded in 1996 to recruit for quality light industrial and administration positions. In 1997, Protrans expanded again, this time to include recruiting for full-time professionals for their clients.

TRUCKING QUICK FACTS

Truck driver was the most frequently listed occupation for males in the last census -- 255,990. Including women drivers, the total number is 263,500.

Trucking generated an estimated $51.1 billion in revenues in 2002.

Canada's trade with the U.S. fell from its $589 billion peak in 2000 to $531 billion in 2003. Trucking accounted for 63% total trade with the United States. In terms of value, 66% of this trade moved by truck. Commodities shipped by truck from/to the United States totaled $372 billion, with exports accounting for $197 billion of this.

Trucking was the dominant mode for both exports (53%) and imports (80%).

Truck activity across the Canada-U.S. border shrank 2% in 2003 to 13 million two-way trips. At 60.1 million trips, car crossings were down 6% from 2002 -- the lowest level since 1986.

Almost 78% of Canada-U.S. trade (in value terms) carried by trucks was concentrated at six border crossing points: Windsor/Ambassador Bridge; Fort Erie/Niagara Falls; Sarnia and Landsdowne, Ont.; Lacolle, Que. and Pacific Highway in British Columbia.
