The 25-year-old British Columbia native is working his way across Canada, filling weekly positions as everything from a yoga instructor, to a dairy farmer, to a brewmaster.

Now in its 22nd week, the one-week job project has landed Aiken in this southwestern Ontario city to work at Dave FM radio station.

Monday was his first day.

“Everyone’s wanted to be a radio DJ at one time,” Aiken said, adding that he is nervous and excited. “But that’s what keeps things interesting.”

The idea to try a new job every week for one year emerged when Aiken could not decide on a career.

“I thought, OK, I have no idea what I want to do,” he said.

Following his graduation from Capilano College School of Business in Vancouver top of the class Aiken was adamant to not just settle on any job that came his way.

So he decided to test the waters: 52 jobs in 52 weeks. Employers can make a job offer through Aiken’s website www.oneweekjob.com.

Aiken has donated his wages — $7631.60 to date to the Make Poverty History group.

Employers have paid $100 to $1000. Dave FM will pay him a standard minimum wage, which is about $9 an hour for a 40-hour work week.

Make Poverty History’s specific initiative to eliminate child poverty in Canada really spoke to Aiken.

“My best friend showed me an article about child poverty in Canada ... I was completely unaware,” he said.

Aiken is staying at the Holiday Inn in Kitchener this week where he will also work a couple of hours a day in exchange for free accommodations.

Monday was laundry duty and Aiken was to work in the kitchen on Tuesday.

While still undecided about a specific career, Aiken said he has already learned a lot about what he wants and does not want in a job.

“I am looking to interact with people,” he said.
