Humber College, in partnership with CarriersEdge, is offering the first college certificate designed specifically for professional drivers. The Certificate in Small Business Management for the Trucking Industry is the first certificate of its kind in Canada.
Starting this month, the program will be offered online and will allow professional drivers to improve their knowledge of driving as a profession, as well as their business and leadership skills. The online offering will provide drivers with the flexibility to continue developing their skills while still on the road.
"Humber has provided specialized training to the trucking industry for over 15 years," said Janis Miller, dean of Humber Corporate & Continuing Education. "The key to our success is working with industry partners who bring expert skills to the learning environment."
The certificate is comprised of eight courses, which can be taken in any order.
The courses have been specially selected to serve the needs of professional drivers and include: How To Start A Small Business; Human Relations; Small Business Bookkeeping; Border Crossing; Defensive Driving; Pretrip, HOS & Logbooks; Cargo Securement; and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
The first three courses come from the Ontario Management Development Program, which Humber offers as part of its continuing education services. The remaining five courses are part of the CarriersEdge library.
