According to the Ontario Trucking Association:

[ 2007-09-12 ]

- The Professional Truck Driver Institute Inc., the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council, and the Truck Training School Association of Ontario are all qualified to accredit driver training schools.

- Students may be eligible for funding through Human Resources Canada's Skills Development Program, and a reputable school will be able to help them find appropriate sources of financial support.

- Students should exercise caution when it comes to tuition fees, because the lowest price is not necessarily the best price.

- Questions to ask any school include: the length of time the school has been in business, the qualifications and credentials of the instructors, whether the school provides a written curriculum, and how much time is spent in practical training and how much is spent in a classroom. Students should also ask for references from former students and employers that have hired drivers from the school.

- Obtaining a licence is not a guarantee of a job, and there are other skills and sets of knowledge to learn before embarking on a successful career as a professional driver.
