Jobboom.com winner

For 26-year-old Katherine Dann, whose homemade PC had moved on to the great junkyard in the sky, the brand new laptop courtesy of Jobboom.com could not have come at a more crucial time in her life. She wasn't even aware that when she registered at the National Job Fair at the end of September in the hopes of finding a lead in her job search, she would be eligible to win the HP Pavilion Notebook.

Dann won the laptop during a Jobboom promotion held Sept. 26 and 27 during the National Job Fair at the Metro Convention Centre.

"I would have been happy to register on Jobboom.com even if there was no draw for the laptop," Oakville resident Dann said.

Sorting through offers

She wasn't familiar with the online job recruitment site before the two-day job fair, but after exploring the site she has begun recommending Jobboom.com to her family and friends. The marketing student is completing her studies at Seneca College and is currently sorting through the offers she is receiving for interviews.

"It is honestly a very good site," Dann said. "I am impressed with the search capabilities on the site and how direct it is."

Dann prefers to search for jobs online because there is much more detail available on the companies that use the sites to attract job seekers. Although she occasionally browses the print classifieds of newspapers in Oakville and Toronto, she prefers logging on to hunt for the next job opportunity.

"It helps me to more closely match my qualifications to the job that is being advertised," Dann said. "Jobboom is a new site, but I find it better than some of the other job sites because it seems more focused on helping people find jobs that suit them."

When Dann got the call that her name had been drawn from more than 500 hopefuls, she couldn't believe her luck.

"When I found out that I could win a laptop I thought about how amazing it would be to have a chance to get a job and a new computer. When I got the call, I knew it was God working."

She does not think it was an accident that just as she is concluding her studies and preparing to find the perfect job in Toronto, she finds out about Jobboom.com, wins a laptop and lands a job interview on the same morning that she is scheduled to claim her prize.

Change of plans

Humbly accepting her prize she revealed that even though she had planned to present the computer as a gift to a loved one, her plans changed when she got a glimpse of the 17-in. high-definition ultra widescreen display -- a machine perfectly designed for mobile entertainment.

"I think I am going to have to keep this," she said with a big smile while picking up her prize. "After today I know anything is possible, so I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that I'll have to buy another one to give away when I get my new job."
