- Dust off your business plan. Before you plunge into your daily work routine, take the time to review or revise your small business plan. Establish clear financial objectives for 2006, refresh your marketing strategy and identify quarterly milestones you want to achieve.
- Keep work at work. One of the main contributors to small business failure is owner burnout. It's not just the long hours, but the constant worrying and thinking about your business that can wear you out. Resolve to mentally "turn off" your business when the work day is done.
- Work on your business, not in it. Successful entrepreneurs don't get bogged down running the machinery of their businesses -- they simply orchestrate the efforts of others. Make a commitment to delegate tasks and functions to employees or suppliers so you can work on building your venture.
- Take a vacation. Believe it or not, your business will survive without you for a week or two. Enjoy the perks of self-employment and be good to yourself by scheduling a few breaks throughout the year.
