Jeanne Albert-Cheng makes professional HR advice available to all business owners.
This is especially true if you're an entrepreneur with your own business to run. So how does one deal with unforeseen challenges such as new clients, staff changes or new competitors?
Jeanne Albert-Cheng is the founder of Fluid Human Resources (www.fluidhr.ca). She says you must expect the unexpected, embrace it and enjoy the experience. As an entrepreneur, this mindset has helped her deal with a constantly changing environment.
Fluid Human Resources bridges the gap for organizations seeking seasoned HR advice but yet to hire a full-time HR manager. "I recognized that small to medium-sized businesses needed HR assistance but often couldn't afford to hire a full-time HR specialist. I figured there was demand for outsourced HR services with this type of customer."
Albert-Cheng deals with many different clients on a day to day basis. "One day I'm wearing a hard hat in a manufacturing setting and the next day I'm visiting a high-end spa," she says. The variety of people and businesses that she gets to help adds both excitement and challenges to her business life.
When starting a relationship with a new client, Albert-Cheng does her homework to appreciate what makes each one tick.
"The first step to help solve any company's human resources challenges is to fully understand the organization," she says.
"We take the time to learn the culture, vision and goals of a new client, which really helps us to recommend the ideal solution for their HR needs," she says. "Finding that perfect solution always gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment because I know we've really helped each client."
So what are her words of advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? "Step outside your comfort zone. Take the time to really investigate your client's world. The more you know about them, the better you'll be able to help them. In the process, you'll also get the opportunity to learn from your clients -- so take it!"
