Over the years, TOSI has successfully weathered the storm of a fluctuating economy. Ours is a supply and demand business, says Brian Dawson, director of operations.

There are a lot of highs and lows in this industry. With company closures and staff cutbacks in recent years, there are a lot of highly qualified people accepting positions in other firms, only to jump ship when a position more appropriate to their skill level becomes available.

Situations like this have worked to TOSI's advantage. Businesses are faced with the inconvenience of recent hires leaving their organization, disruptions or delays in daily operation, and lost time in locating and training a replacement.

"In the last two to three months, we've noticed an increase in the demand for our services. Nine out of 10 companies currently utilize a placement service," Dawson says.

Taking the guesswork out of finding the ideal person for a specific position, whether full time, temporary or contract, TOSI applicants undergo a series of tests to ensure their commitment and skill level are a perfect fit for TOSI clientele.

Providing experienced individuals in a variety of fields including information technology, office services, financial services and call centre services, TOSI offers its clients peace of mind by guaranteeing a qualified staff member will be there every day for the duration of the contract.

Recognizing that people are essential to the success of any operation, TOSI works closely with its staff to ensure the individual is achieving his or her own goals.

"Our company mantra is 'Passion communicates confidence, confidence invites trust, and trust delivers results,'" says Dawson. "I believe staff are drawn to the size of our organization. We aren't a multi-management operation -- we offer more of a team environment. TOSI gives staff the power to make their dreams come true."

TOSI takes a hands-on approach in its involvement with a variety of charitable organizations. Working with HRDC (Human Resources Development Canada), TOSI conducts a series of job-searching seminars in local community centres, and also appears in area high schools educating students on the employment services options available to them.

"Our staff participate in many annual events, such as the CN Tower stair climb that benefits the United Way. We support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, take part in MS Bike Tours, in mini marathons and Kicks for Cancer, where the proceeds go directly to cancer research," Dawson says.

He took part in the Friends For Life Rally last year -- a week-long, 600-km bike rally to Montreal, with the proceeds going to those living with AIDS. "It was a great experience," he says.

"We have staff who volunteer their time weekly or monthly, at various food and clothing drives throughout the city," Dawson says.

"We organized a bake sale that took place at the end of May. Staff donated their time and energies to raise funds for Centenary Health Centre in Scarborough.

All funds collected will be used to purchase the equipment necessary to establish a Web site and produce a monthly newsletter."
